Hangars for aircraft storage, parking, and maintenance at Oradea Airport

The feasibility study for the hangars at Oradea Airport addresses the maintenance buildings and the infrastructure required for aircraft access and parking as a single unit. The documentation correlates the hangars with the modernization of the Echo taxiway and the expansion of the parking apron.

Location
Oradea International Airport
Phase
Feasibility study
Function
Aircraft storage, parking, and maintenance
Proposed complex
Two hangars and related movement areas

Investment objective

The investment proposes two hangars, with technical annexes, in the area south of the cargo terminal and apron 2. The organization of maintenance spaces must be correlated with aircraft access, parking areas, utilities, and service circulation.

The report describes functions for aircraft from the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320/A321 families. For the dimensioning of movement areas, the analysis takes into account a wider fleet, including larger aircraft; the requirements of the hangars and those of the external infrastructure are treated distinctly.

Studied solution for movement areas

  • Modernization of the TWY Echo taxiway, which connects the runway to the aprons in the cargo area and the future hangars.
  • A load-bearing area for TWY Echo with a minimum width of 26.45 m, according to the FS report.
  • Expansion of the apron, with a total length of 480.94 m presented in the report.
  • Correlation of taxi routes, aircraft positions, and safety surfaces.
  • Integration of the road structure, slopes, drainage, markings, and lighting.

Coordination of specialties

The feasibility solution brings together the architecture, structure, and installations of the hangars with the external airport infrastructure. Water collection systems, power supply, lighting, and signaling are correlated with the apron configuration and building access.

The report provides for the verification and detailing of solutions in subsequent design stages. The dimensions presented in this case study are reference points of the analyzed FS documentation.

Contribution and design result

The Sky Meridian team brings together specialist consulting experience for the feasibility study of the hangars at Oradea Airport. The contribution presented concerns the associated airport infrastructure and the coordination of movement areas with aircraft access and parking requirements.

The result is a feasibility solution in which the hangars, the apron, and the taxiing connections are analyzed as a whole. This provides the technical basis for substantiating the investment and continuing the design, without representing a confirmation of the execution or reception of the works.
