Compliance monitoring and airport SMS

We support compliance monitoring and the development of the Safety Management System (SMS) for airports in Romania, including Oradea and Bihor: audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions.

Compliance and SMS: how to link audits, risks, and corrective actions: a practical article for project preparation.

Airport compliance monitoring and compliance matrix

We support the organization and development of the compliance monitoring function by identifying the requirements applicable to the airport's infrastructure, activities, and management system. We develop compliance matrices that correlate the reference and version of the requirement with the scope of application, the verified process, the designated person responsible, relevant documentation, and the evidence necessary to demonstrate compliance. We analyze the impact of regulatory changes and support the updating of procedures, records, and internal control mechanisms.

Audit and inspection programs

We develop audit and inspection programs tailored to the complexity of activities, the results of previous verifications, and identified risks, including relevant contracted activities. We define the objectives, criteria, scope of verifications, and sampling methods, ensuring the independence of auditors from the activities being audited. We prepare checklists and tools for examining documents, interviewing personnel, and observing practices in the field, so that conclusions are supported by objective and traceable evidence.

Findings and corrective actions

We document findings by associating the unfulfilled requirement with the identified situation and related evidence. We analyze immediate causes, root causes, and organizational factors that favor recurrence, differentiating corrections from corrective actions aimed at eliminating the causes. We support the development of remediation plans, the establishment of responsibilities and deadlines, the verification of implementation, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of measures. We structure the reporting to the responsible management, track outstanding actions, and document the closure of findings.

Safety Management System — SMS

For the Safety Management System — SMS — we develop methodologies for hazard identification and risk assessment, adapted to the aerodrome's configuration and operational profile. We define scenarios, causes, consequences, and existing protective measures, using explicit criteria for probability, severity, and tolerability. We structure hazard and risk registers so that each assessment includes assumptions, data sources, justification of the risk level, additional measures, those responsible, and review conditions. We substantiate the assessment of residual risks and support the decisions of the designated management levels for their acceptance.

Management of change

We integrate safety assessments into the management of technical, operational, and organizational changes, analyzing the effects on infrastructure, equipment, personnel, and involved organizations. We examine normal scenarios, degraded operating situations, and transitional phases of implementation. We document the conditions for entry into service, verification criteria, and the need for updating the aerodrome manual, procedures, and training. We establish mechanisms for reassessment when changes in assumptions, relevant events, or indications regarding the decrease in the effectiveness of control measures occur.

Reporting and safety performance indicators

We develop tools for reporting hazards and events, analyzing contributing factors, and monitoring trends. We support the definition of safety performance indicators and targets, with data sources, calculation methods, analysis frequencies, and intervention thresholds, reported, where relevant, to the volume of operations. We correlate the results of audits, internal investigations, and risk assessments in reports for management review, resource prioritization, and verification of system performance improvement.

Frequently asked question

How are corrective actions tracked?
